ABOUT ME
My name is Shadya Villamarin, I am 20 years old from Ecuador (South America); bilingual in Spanish and English. I am currently studying Fashion Design at Nottingham Trent University and I love it!
University experience
I am currently a first year Fashion Design student in Nottingham Trent University. My university experience is enabling me to develop relevant skills and knowledge required to springboard into the global fashion and related industries.
This course is allowing me to explore design components: concept, drawing, materials, colour and future thinking. Studying fundamental aspects of how design practice and theory can be used as both research tools and to develop my design identity.
I have learned to apply my creative design ideas into practice by making use of fashion design skills, such as, pattern cutting, 2D to 3D design development, CAD and fashion illustration. This course has allowed me to build an awareness of core issues relating to design responsibility, sustainability and ethics.
There is no doubt my university experience so far is enriching me with crucial design skills required in the fashion industry.

My passion for Fashion...
My enthusiasm for Fashion originated from my adolescence and was enhanced throughout my A level studies. It is unbelievable how ideas of our imagination can become reality. Fashion has the power to suddenly make you feel empowered just by looking at the mirror.I am intrigued by the aesthetics and the creative form of manufactured clothing; I look forward to the opportunity of widening my understanding of the subject at a higher level.
Being awarded a trophy in GCSE Design and Technology, motivated me to choose Product Design at A level in which I had the opportunity to expand my interest in fashion such as the appreciation of different shapes of constructed jackets, as well as every detail such as embellishments and patterns. It is fascinating how the most appealing clothing tend to be more marketable and revolutionary within the Fashion Design industry. I had the opportunity to explore the production process from 2D sketching to the development of prototypes and final piece by creating my own patterns and using essential equipment such as sewing machine, as well as using 'Creo Elements Pro School Edition' (CAD/CAM 3D programme) as part of my skill set. This experience has provided me with a foundation for university. These skills have proven essential for my degree, with regards to implementing primary and secondary research to complete my own projects. In addition, being involved in Fine Art A level has reinforced my creativity as well as my visual sense of texture, material feel finish and use of colour.
My willingness to strive for success drove me to sketch different authentic ideas in my free time. The inspiration comes from "Balmain The Documentary" which had a strong influence on me. Balmain, a French luxury fashion house in which Olivier Rousteing took over the helm at just 25 years old and transformed Balmain into a relevant and prominent brand with his original talent. Similarly, in my design drawings, I focus on being authentic and innovative with the influence of different cultures. Visiting Victoria and Albert Museum in London has given me a wider chronological view. It is home to million fashion, textiles and jewellery objects of 5,000 years of art and cultural artefacts in showing human growth and creativity. Simultaneously, Young Enterprise, an enrichment during my studies, developed my personal and business skills and gave me a taste of business performance outside the industry.
Conclusively, having completed Industrial design level 4 at Bournemouth University has awarded me with great opportunities, such as enabling me programming and developing technological visualisation.
In addition I love the practicality behind producing materials, clothing and generally creating innovative and imaginative fashion.
Furthermore, engaging in National Citizen Service summer programme, gave me the opportunity to work with 'Growing People' a humanitarianism charity that provides a programme of social and therapeutic gardening. The programme enabled me to lead and make decisions within the group which enhanced my problem solving and organisational skills, as well as the ability to work either as a team player or independently. On the other hand, my hobbies are drawing and designing considering it is a way to express my ideas and creativity in an authentic, innovative manner.
My desire is to fulfil my future academic career and to achieve my goal which is to be a designer director of a prominent fashion house. I certainly feel that Fashion Design can open the doors into the world I am passionate about.
